The soul of space is interpreted by light, and the flatness of architecture is carried by function.

In the spring of 2018, our studio was commissioned by the owner to transform the facade and interior space of the self-use office building infoshan, guangdong. The building, which has been derelict for years, is a standard three-storey office block with a total area of 1,500 square metres. The present situation plane is regular, between the floor and the floor by the fire stairs connection. The original space pattern is the ordinary production workshop building in the 1980s, and the compact space is a little stiff.

At the beginning of the project, our team with the owner after communication and on-site investigation, understand the project site conditions, to the owner the company management structure and culture, and the expectations of the new office environment atmosphere, can we hope to create a trigger interpersonal communication, as well as the people and the environment interaction, timely office environment as a design concept.

According to the functional requirements proposed by the owners, we have retained the original layout of the conventional system with stairs as the circulation space connecting several floors. In the design process, considering that the center of the original plane is far away from the surrounding outer wall, where the lighting and visual field conditions are extremely unfavorable, the new public space system takes place in this area. Make the connection between the floor on the vertical direction, and appear a gender, the structure of the original on the second floor and third floor slab were moderately, to increase their skylights and metope hole more originality to set up the line of sight and line of interaction, we hope that the public behavior of the system, including the entry image reception, rest, exchange activities - light interpretation space such as soul, carry construction level to function.

Starting from the first ray of light from the skylight, it means that the space is endowed with new vitality. With the flow of time, the beam of light adds more dramatic colors to the original static space. The vertical system starts at the foyer on the second floor and ends at the skylight on the third floor. The material of the space interface is distinguished from the normal office areas around it, consisting of terrazzo bricks, wood finishes, metal and ting paint. The wall is double height, which emphasizes the continuity of space. Sculptural white walls, plain interface and deliberate white space leave more possibilities for spatial narrative.
